英国艺术学留学生essay范文-Surreal photography reflects one’s inner heart
Background
Influenced by surrealism theory, based on the intuitionism of henri bergson and dialects of Hegel, surreal photography is formed in 1930 and thrives in 1960. Andre Breton once describe “Psychic automatism in its pure state, by which one proposes to express -- verbally, by means of the written word, or in any other manner -- the actual functioning of thought. Dictated by the thought, in the absence of any control exercised by reason, exempt from any aesthetic or moral concern."(Andre Breton, 1969).Surreal photography is an important school of art and many scholars do research on it, which is also one of the reasons why I want to hold the exhibition. Surreal photography combines the real world with people’s own imagination, in a word; it is the personal subjective expression. Though surreal photography usually show us such typical surreal feelings as absurdity, fantasticality, decomposition, uncertainty and indifference, artists try to get rid of rational control and ethic bondage in order to show the most sincerest side of human beings. Their works focuses on people’s mental state, emotional awareness and social reform, all of which provide common people who are under great pressure with a real and complete true world. So this exhibition is really needed because of this. This article focuses on the research of surreal artists’ works’ theme, importance and their hidden truth. Some artists such as ManRay, Kaveh H. Steppenwolf, MacBain, Philippe Halsman and other surreal photographer’s works will be on exhibition besides my own works. Each of them makes a great contribution to surreal photography. Thus the main theme of this exhibition can be shown obviously through the combination of my own works and these representative artists’ works. Some representative works will be the focus of this exhibition such as the violin of ingres and glass tear. The mission of this exhibition is mainly to let more people know more information and even some more professional knowledge about surreal photography. Thus common people will have an ability to appreciate surreal photography through the analysis of these works’ historical background and their aesthetic features and they will know how to value their true life and love their daily life more through the hidden truth and the meaning of these works on this exhibition. The esthetic language of these works represent for their closeness to nature, care for social life and the exploration of human being’s inner world, all of which make common people be closer to nature. Artists infuse their own feelings into their works and influence modern society’s ideology and people’s living concepts. The audiences who are invited to this exhibition are mostly those people who are busy with their work or trifle housework without spare time to enjoy the joy of true life and those who are confused at their future life and about the meaning of life. Besides, those professional connoisseurs are also welcomed. That is because these people need the help of surreal photography to let them realize the true life through these works on exhibition. For those who have certain knowledge of art schools can have a better understanding of surreal photography through this exhibition. This exhibition will be held in tate modern which is Brtain’s national museum of art located in London. This museum collects many international modern and contemporary aesthetic artworks which date from 1900 until today. The unique character of this exhibition venue is that it is rebuilt on the basis of a shabby power station, which is an example of adaptive reuse. This process of museum building connotes finding new life in old building which looks shabby and ridiculous. There is something in common between my exhibition and this museum; audience can find truth and new inspiration beneath the absurd surface of surreal photography works. Its space and its scale enable this exhibition come alive. Tate modern is not only a national museum; it is a public palace for common people. So the venue where the exhibition is held can benefit more people, which can shorten the distance between art and common people. Common citizens will not think that they cannot reach the surreal photography as an ordinary people rather than a specialist. From then on, they may show a great interest in surreal photography, refresh their opinions about aesthetic works and find inspiration for their daily life. They will establish a right idea of appreciating beauty and a noble sentiment so that they can improve artistic accomplishments accordingly. The exchange with citizens is one of the most important reasons that artist works exist from ancient times to modern times. (Krauss&Livingston,1985)
Research questions
The exhibition is given the name “surreal photography reflects one’s inner heart”. The exhibited works are as following: the violin of ingres, glass tear and self-shot etc. the violin of ingres is created by Man Ray, an American artist. He believes that it is better to shoot an impression than a real physical thing and it is a good choice to shoot an illusion rather than to shoot an impression. He used montage technique to put a woman’s graceful back line and the violin image together closely. The woman’s graceful curve line is like an elegant and textured outline of the violin. These two images, if separated, are so ordinary, however, if combined, there is a sensual and mysterious atmosphere. The combination of them predicts that the flesh and blood of this sexy body express human being’s emotional musical instrument, which is full of humor. There is a connection between his works and my works: chairs, the combination of the shadow and the top part of real chairs form a lonely girl’s image and the darkest part of the shadow between two chairs is like this lonely girl’s long hair, which causes people’s deep imagination. The glass tears are also inspired by Man ray, it is one of the most prestigious works and this photography reaches the top of perfection of surreal photography. Extreme-close ups give us a visual shock. Two beautiful eyes are staring up to sky with a sorrowful and sad feeling. Tears flowing from eyes are not real tears; instead, they are two great big glass beads, which give people a weird feeling.
http://www.ukthesis.org/Essay_Writing/ The sad cheek of this woman and the glittering glass bead from her eyes seems contradicted but charming actually.( David,2003). People who come to the surreal photography exhibition will fall into a random thought such as: “why is she so sad?” the unreal beadings bring people real artist effect. Their feedbacks will be collected to do research. Self –shot created by MacBain is also a photography work which can cause people’s great imagination. The author seems to be hidden in the shabby wooden stairs with a lonely head laid outside on the step of this attic; a ray of dim light falls on the left wallboard. The author is smiling at people with a huge beard. However, the bucket, the mop, the rag are all concrete and distinct. This absurdity makes those people who attend this exhibition fall into deep thought as well. (Bowker, 2013) The same aesthetic method applies to my works: overlook , it also use the change of ray to show us an overlook of a city, the closer scene of this city can be seen clearly and rest is faint, whch is just like a person’s life. A man can know the present situation but his future is unknown and blurred. Project objectives
First of all, visitor will know some knowledge related to surreal photography and have their own judgment about surrealism works, secondly, people who attend this exhibition will think deeply about life and know themselves better so that they will live a meaningful life.
