Your report should be around 3000-4000 words and include diagrams and other appropriate data. Your report should be submitted on or before Tues 1st May 2012. You are reminded that late submission of coursework will result in marks being deducted.
you will need to cover material that has not yet been covered in lectures
you should try to cover some material outside the lectures
Virgin Island is a remote island with one major city, Media, in the north covering an area of 1000km2 (slightly less than the size of London) within which there is a densely populated centre of approximately 100km2. The density of users in the city centre is 500/km2 and in the suburban areas is 100/km2. The rest of the island is sparsely populated with an average number of users of 5/km2.
This information is useful in determining capacity and cell size
The Government of Virgin Island would like to set up a mobile communications network based on CDMA (code division multiple access) technology and asks you to write a proposal for the structure of the network. There are competing bids to be a service provider. The Government is making available the frequency bands 890- 915MHz for the uplink and 935 - 960MHz for the downlink.
although these are GSM bands, do not use TDMA alone like the GSM system!
think about how your BW requirements fit into the available BW
The report should cover the main aspects of a mobile communication system;
Bandwidth requirements of the system
Cell size and capacity in the different regions to cope with the demands of users
Modulation technique on uplink and downlink
Error detection and correction methods
Any other regulatory/business/user requirements that should be considered.
all these link together
You should justify your choices based on both a literature review and calculations and graphs comparing the different design options. In some instances you may need to do your own research about particular parameters that have not been specified here e.g. ‘typical’ usage time of voice and data services by users, acceptable bit error to interference ratios for voice and other data, http://www.ukthesis.org/Essay_Writing/ blocking probabilities. Where appropriate, you could consider writing short pieces of MATLAB or C-code to generate the data required to plot the graphs. You might also want to consider implementing a link budget calculation and/or calculations of blocking probabilities.
you need to do some market research
MATLAB or C not essential, you need to optimise parameters e.g. Cell size. Graphs may be helpful link budget calculations available in references
There is sufficient information available in the lecture notes for you to obtain an adequate pass of this module. However to achieve a good mark you will need to perform additional research. The main purpose of this project is to assess your ability to make design choices for a mobile communications system. As has been demonstrated in the development of different systems in the US and Europe, there is no single correct solution. Please justify your design choices and do not simply copy an existing system.#p#分页标题#e#
if you want a good mark work hard!don’t just copy UMTS or IS-95

Use more basic textbooks for understanding coding, multiple access etc. Use these for putting it all together. good starting points but don’t just work from these
