1.1 Online game market
With the internet popular and modern life diverse, as a new entertainment style, online game has become more and more popular. The development of online game also plays an important role on economic development. In the Chinese market, since 2001, the Legend launched by royal company has been widely popular. After that, more and more online games and customers emerge in China. According to I Research, the market size of online game in 2010 has exceeded 30 billion yuan (as shown in Figure 1.1). Online game users in China have reached 70 million. At the same time, paying subscribers have reached 35 million. In recent years, the market size of online game in China is increasing. It is estimated that the market size of online game will reach to 46 billion yuan in 2014.

1.2 General introduction to World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft, one of the most outstanding online games in the world, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), developed by Blizzard Entertainment. There are some prominent characteristics for World of Warcraft, paying attention to exploration plot and interactivity, emphasizing to create a perfect and real game world, and building a system of rich goods and missions. Since entered into the Chinese market in 2006, World of Warcraft has achieved a great success. Even it has experienced the storm of agent replacement, in 2010, World of Warcraft China operated in NetEase continued to attract lots of attention from the Chinese online game players and also bring huge sales for the NetEase .
1.3 Opportunities and challenges
Since launched the second expansion in 2010, World of Warcraft has kept an excellent performance. However, there are also some challenges for NetEase to develop World of Warcraft. On the one hand, in general, the growth trend of online game market has slowed down in China. Recently, Chinese market faces much innovative risks, not only business model, but also promotion way, which limits largely development of the whole industry. Therefore, it is indicated that if the industry cannot solve above problems, negative growth will emerge. On the other hand, more and more companies have joined in the Chinese online game market, which makes competition increasingly fierce. So, network marketing has become a critical factor for companies to attract players to focus on their games .
1.2 Aim and objectives
The aim of study is through exploring and evaluating network marketing strategies of World of Warcraft in China for NetEase, finally to offer some suggestions for its future strategies. In order to achieve the aim, there are three following objectives.
Firstly, to explore its network marketing strategies through 4C theory;
Secondly, to evaluate its network marketing strategies based on SWOT analysis;
Thirdly, to bring forward some suggestions for its future network marketing strategies
1.3 Outline
The thesis is divided into the following six chapters.
Chapter one. It is to provide a background to the subject area by putting into the Chinese online game market and introducing opportunities and challenges of World of Warcraft for NetEase. The chapter also indicates aim and objectives of the thesis.
Chapter two. Through the literature review, the thesis attempts to provide current research literatures on network marketing and performance evaluation system of http://www.ukthesis.org/ygsslwdx/ network marketing. It also justifies 4C theory adopted during the research and introduces 4C theory. In addition, researches of online game industry are also summarized.
Chapter three. The chapter mainly presents methodology using in the thesis. Through designing questionnaire and collecting data, the analysis will be insured to have a certain academic value.
