A famous ancient Chinese, a philosopher thought that etiquette was a principle to deal with the relationship between man and supernatural beings. In English, courtesy refers to courteous behaviors, good manners; etiquette which means system of rules governing formal occasion. Different cultural background, individualism and collectivism, nationalism and value factors may lead to the different etiquette in politeness between the west and China which can be found in many aspects of daily communication, including greeting, parting, dining, considerate remarks, addressing, compliments, apologies, thanks, invitation and saying good-bye and so on. In modern society, the world is becoming smaller and smaller, and people are very active in frequent exchanges. Many countries are drawing their great attention to combing international etiquette with national etiquette creatively. That is to say, etiquette is the common wealth of Chinese and Western civilizations.

2. Origin of Chinese and Western Etiquette
Chinese etiquette and the Western etiquette have different origins.
2.1 Origin of Chinese Etiquette
In China, etiquette is equal to courtesy and ceremony. The essence of etiquette is the way of coping with people and the belief in ghosts and spirits. People think that everything is controlled by the ghosts which cannot be seen. Therefore, the etiquette is originated from the belief in ghosts and spirits, as well as a special form of belief in ghosts and spirits. China is a state of etiquette. Back to five thousand years ago, etiquette used to be the center of traditional culture. Up to now, the etiquette has been really reformed. Thus it becomes norms of modern civilization. 2.2 Origin of the Western Etiquette
In the Western countries, the word ‘etiquette’ used to stand for "keep off the grass". Due to this obvious disregard, the king of Versailles commanded that no individual should be to go beyond the bounds of the etiquettes.
