Civil Engineering at Strathclyde University has been one of the first departments in the UK to fully embrace the importance of the environment in today's world. This has made it a strong and forward-looking department and the ideal choice for graduate students who are interested in doing a post-graduate degree that is highly marketable. A unique feature of the department is our strong link to industry and public bodies, which is an essential part of our approach to research and education. It also provides our students with valuable contacts outside the world of academia. The department is the main provider of graduates in Civil Engineering and Environmental Health in Scotland.
In particular, the Department leads the Joint Research Institute in Environment, Infrastructure and Transportation formed in 2007 under the Glasgow Research Partnership in Engineering (GRPE). The GRPE - which includes the Universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian and Paisley - was funded to promote multi-disciplinary collaboration between leading research groups in the West of Scotland and provide world-class joint research facilities .
The success rate of graduates from our department is excellent, with most finding permanent course-related employment within six months of completing their degree. There is currently SAAS quota funding and other studentships available for some of the courses.
which aims to promote cross-disciplinary programmes in teaching and research, for the whole University, in the areas of environment and sustainability. The activities in the Centre are based on the recognition that the 'sustainability' agenda, which seeks to address the needs of the present without compromising that of the future, is primarily people-focused. As such, the Centre's programmes are designed to link technological and engineering solutions to socio-economic and environmental pressures arising from climate change, population growth, and unsustainable production and consumption behaviours at local and global levels. This is in keeping with the wider objective of the Centre to provide a strategic framework for effectively embedding the concept and practice of sustainability in engineering University Research and Education.
The Centre's teaching and research programmes aim to enhance the longstanding international reputation of the University as ‘a place of useful learning'. Its diverse expertise profile provides a robust basis for it to evolve as a centre of excellence in sustainability studies. The Centre's management and organisational structure is designed with the aim to facilitate implementation of its role as a bridge across Faculties in the University and also between the University, industry and government and non-government agencies.#p#分页标题#e#
About the University of Strathclyde(英国dissertation网http://www.ukthesis.org/)
Since receiving its Royal Charter in 1964, Strathclyde has become the third largest university in Scotland. It has 67 buildings over 500 acres of land. It teaches over 20,000 students in five faculties: Law, Arts & Social Sciences, Education, Engineering, Science and Strathclyde Business School. Taking account of distance learning, short course and continuing professional development and evening courses, Strathclyde provides courses for over 50,000 people each year, making it the UK's largest provider of postgraduate and professional education.
The UK's top employers target our graduates, choosing to include Strathclyde in a very select schedule of recruitment visits. The University Careers Service does everything possible to help students make the most of their career potential.
Strathclyde's location is unique. Our two campuses are in prime sites in Glasgow, yet still within easy reach of some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe. Strathclyde has its own campus village, right in the heart of the city. Over 1,440 students live there and a further 500 live in University accommodation within close walking distance, much of it in the fashionable Merchant City. The Jordanhill Campus has its own halls of residence on site.
The University blends tradition with a dynamic, progressive approach to teaching and learning and aims to encourage students to develop transferable skills vital in today's workplace.
Glasgow is one of the liveliest and most cosmopolitan destinations in Europe. The city has been reborn as a centre of style and vitality set against a backdrop of outstanding Victorian architecture. Glasgow boasts world famous art collections, the best shopping in the United Kingdom outside London, and the most vibrant nightlife in Scotland. A must see is the Art Nouveau splendour of Scotland's best known architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose inimitable style adorns attractions such as The Lighthouse, Glasgow School of Art, and House for an Art Lover. However, if you wish to leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city, then take to the glorious countryside with its mountains and lochs, and enjoy the plethora of outdoor pursuits.
