Data Collection Strategy
Data collection (Interview Section)
As I am keen to show the proportion of female leaders in enterprise and the roles they play in the enterprises, I will undertake interviews from February to April 2009. Therefore I will select suitable sample of companies for interview. The interviews will be semi-structured in format, with open-ended questions to prompt discussion. A note of the questions used in the interviews. Detailed questions include the number of female leaders in the companies, the roles they play in the companies, etc.
First of all, I will through network, magazines and reports to select enterprises which have female leaders, then contact with them to choose whom are interested with my research. I will interview the chosen companies' HR managers, the results of the interview will be taken down through notes and recording.
Data collection (Questionnaire Section)
The questionnaire was designed based on previous research work on the topic.
The questionnaire was divided into two sections:
•Background information of the respondents
•Respondents’ opinions toward female leaders
The questionnaire included twelve questions which were based on the above topics. The questions were combined of multiple choice questions, five open-ended questions were included to get special feedback.
From May to June,, 2009, took 25 to 55 years old Chinese and British citizens as objects, generally in line with the proportion of one-quarter to select samples. The data collection adopted method of field distribution to distribute questionnaires. 50 questionnaires were distributed for people in .
Ethical Concerns
Before implementing questionnaire, I will connect with any related units for permission. Every respondent will be informed about the nature, aim of the study being conducted and given a choice of either participation or non-participation. Any respondent’s privacy will also be protected during the study. The researcher will report the findings in a complete and honest fashion, without misrepresenting or compromising the outcome of the study.
Data Analysis Strategy:
Coding and sorting qualitative data
First of all, it needs to review and evaluate the data. The examination on quality of qualitative data consists of two aspects, from the whole research data, I will check if the entire data and information this paper requests has been collected completely (such as the number of female leaders, the roles they play in the companies, their character, etc.). The second is to review and examine individual information, data of each tested subject, to check whether it has any data loss or inconsistencies (such as the conflicts they face between their families and work) and so on .#p#分页标题#e#
The steps of qualitative analysis
Qualitative analysis consists of three basic steps : First, to determine the objectives of a qualitative analysis (such as make A Critical Analysis on Female Leadership); Second, to coordinate research results; Third, to find the relationship, analyzing the relations among gender, leadership and success of the companies. To coordinate the research results based on the objectives of qualitative analysis, it is necessary to adopt a specific method of analysis to find the relationship between the variables, trying to find out their rules and reveal its nature. Analytical methods include analysis and synthesis, deduction and induction, comparison and classification, abstract and concrete, such as logic ways. Analytical tools include: tables, graphs, percentages, charts.
Resource Requirements:
Equipments: computer hardware and software, recording equipment
Budget:costs for designing and ditributing questionnaire, the cost of travel(for interview), as well as the costs of paper printing.
Staff supports: some grand old men’s assistance for interviews. Students’ assistance for gaining data and information .Statistical data analysis. Language and technical editing.
