Part A is a GROUP piece of work
The Health and Fitness Group is a small gym that offers various fitness activities such as Group Exercise, Low Impact Aerobics, Aqua Aerobics etc. Recently they have realized that their customer numbers have increased and they want to use a database in order to capture all the Customer details (Excel File 1) and their Booking Information (Excel File 2). The Schedule file (Excel File 3) records detail of the center’s activities schedule and their details. The Employee file (Excel File 4) records details of their employees and the activities they are responsible for. ALL of these files can be found on Blackboard. Customers can reserve the session they require but due to high demand recently there have been a number of double bookings. The owner wants to provide better customer service and also reduce the stress of double bookings with his staff and therefore has decided to buy a database which will enable the business to operate more effectively. You were asked to design a prototype database in order for the owner to understand how the new system will operate and its capabilities. Therefore you are required to complete ALL the tasks below in your groups:

1. Create the following 4 tables based on the data given and then enter the data in each table. Create the Customer table, Employee Table, Schedule Table and the Booking Table. (10 marks)
2. Establish the relationships between the 4 tables: Customer, Employee, Booking and Schedule. Enforce referential integrity if this has not already been done. (5 marks)
3. The owner needs to provide cover for a member of staff that requested holidays. Create a Query in the Design View and list all the scheduled activities for Dave Humes between 1/10/2010 and 10/10/2010. (5 marks)
4. The owner needs to produce an invoice for a customer for the month of September. Create a Query in the Design View in order to list all the activity information and their cost for Mr. Ivan McDonald. (10 marks)
5. Create an Auto Columnar form based on the Schedule Table. Add and format a heading in the Form Header area - ‘Schedule Details’, and re-size the fields/rearrange into a meaningful order. (10 marks)
6. Create a Report using the Wizard showing all customer contact details and re-size the fields/rearrange into a meaningful order. (10 marks)
Part B is an INDIVIDUAL piece of work
Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems have become increasingly popular for assisting organizations in integrating their information. This form of information systems has enabled more efficient business processes which cut across departmental boundaries, and enabled improved decision making, by enabling managers to access to the requisite information form specific departments.
Write a 2000 word assignment that covers the following:
1) An introduction to the assignment outlining the aims and objectives of the assignment.
2) A literature review of Enterprise Resource Planning systems and the costs and benefits they offer organizations.
3) A case study of a major organization which has introduced an Enterprise Resource Planning System, and a summary of the costs and benefits the organization has experienced through the implementation of the system.

Important note about ARNA regulations
The regulations specify that students must complete every assessment component contributing to the modules on their programme. This applies to all forms of assessment as defined in the module descriptor. Please note that:
• if any assessment component is not completed, students will be failed in the module even if the module pass mark has been achieved;
• if the requirements for referral specified in section 5 of ARNA1 are met, a resit opportunity will be given;
• if unable to complete an assessment component because of extenuating circumstances, students should follow the procedure described in the Student Guide to Extenuating Circumstances1.

Word Count
Students MUST declare the word count at the end of the assignment.
The word count is to be declared on the front page of your assignment. The word count does not include title page, contents page, glossary, tables, figures, illustrations, reference list, bibliography and appendices.
Summarising and compressing the information in your assignment into the word limit is one of the skills that students are expected to acquire, and demonstrate as part of the assignment process.
Word limits and penalties for assignments
If the assignment is within +10% of the stated word limit no penalty will apply. However, if the word limit exceeds the +10% limit, 10% of the mark provisionally awarded to the assignment will be deducted. For example: if the assignment is worth 70% but is above the word limit by more than 10%, a penalty of 7% will be imposed, giving a final mark of 63%.
Time limits and penalties for presentations
The time allocated for the presentation must be adhered to. At the end of this time, the presentation will be stopped and will be marked based on what has been delivered within the time limit.
Submission of Assessment:
All assignments must be submitted via the Undergraduate Programme Office. Each assignment must be accompanied by an Assessed Work Form which must be completed in full. The assignment will not be accepted by the Undergraduate Programme Office unless the form is completed correctly.
Marked assignments will be returned to students. It is advisable to retain a copy of your assignment for you own records. Your mark will be returned on the Assessed Work Form via the Undergraduate Programme Office.
Referencing your work
The Harvard method of referring to publications and of arranging references uses the author's name and the date of the publication. References are listed at the end of the text in alphabetical order by author's name. The general format of a journal reference is shown below:
Smith, J. (1999) ‘How to succeed!’, Journal of Entrepreneurs, 1 (2),pp.34-56
Author/s name and initials are listed first, followed by year of publication in brackets. Then there is the title of article and the journal where article appears, which is in italics. Finally, state the volume and issue Number (in brackets) along with the pages where article can be located.
