Instructions: 

3. The assignment is out of 100 marks in total 

4. The assignment will contribute to 20% of your overall mark for this subject. 

5. Please hand in your assignments into the School of Finance, Actuarial Studies and Applied Statistics front office by the due date. There will be a drop box for the subject with your tutor's name on it, make sure you hand the assignment into your tutor's drop box. 

6. Assigments will be returned in your tutorial classes by www.ukthesis.org  your tutor. 

7. Assigments must be Double Spaced, in Times New Roman 12 point font 

8. Failure to abide by formatting guidelines will incur a penalty of 10% 

9. Assignments are to be between 900 and 1100 words in length. You must include a word count on the first page of the assignment. 

10. The word count does NOT include references, graphs, tables and footnotes. 

11. Failure to include a word count or excessively exceeding the word limit will incur a penalty of 10% 

12. No extensions will be granted for the assignment. 

13. Late assignments will incur a penalty of 25% per day.

b. The websites of the big four banks also have annual reports you can obtain to gather financial information from.

Question 1 

You are a bank analyst for a Mutual Fund with $6 billion under management. The portfolio manager wants to allocate $500 million for purchases of banking stocks and bonds. Your task is to prepare a report making a recommendation as to which of the 'big four' Australian banks the portfolio manager should allocate her $500 million to.

You are a consultant providing advice to the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). The regulators are concerned about the stability of the 'big four' banks and have comissioned you to write a report comparing the performance of the banks. APRA also wants to perform a thorough onsite investigation of the banks' operations, however due to budget cutbacks, they only have the resources to do an onsite examination of one bank. Accordingly, APRA has also asked you to form an opinion as to which bank you view to warrant an onsite investigation.
