In the case of New Balance Corporations, customer’s needs are to be put on the priority, this could be seen where New Balance would eventually produce the shoes product which fits the customer’s need after making references to the ideas and recommendations contributed by the customers visited to their outlets. By doing so, New Balance is able to reduce its cost and wastage risk to minimal. This is because since the shoes product is tailored-made specifically to particular customer themselves. This is another way to keep the cost low. In such circumstance, New Balance seems to be very unique in the industry and being able to grab the market share although charging premium on the selling price of the shoes products.
As globalisation is concerned, meeting the customer needs from local market alone would not able to proceed further if New Balances Corporations were to expand its market to overseas markets because different customers from different continents tend to have different kind of expectations on the requirements of running shoes. The taste and fashion style of the eastern market (i.e. Asia) would likely be different with the taste and fashion style of the American market (local). Having the corporate culture of being innovative and customer-focus by New Balance Corp. would be able to address the major concerns as mentioned earlier.
On the other hand, the teamwork culture which currently been practiced by New Balance Corp would be seen as one of the effective ways on work organisation both in local or global market. Generally, teamwork is particularly good especially to maximise the productivity for a business.
In the case of New Balance Corp especially in its factory of Norridgewock, Maine, the well-trained employees were assigned to perform half-dozen different jobs and switching tasks in every few minutes. Although they operate computerised system to allow a person to do the work of 20, it could be seen that the particular employee would eventually be overwhelming. If too many assignments were assigned to a few employees, there could possibly be lack of communication and meeting between the employees in the same team due to heavy workloads and subsequently the quality of the product (i.e. in this case would be the shoes products manufactured by New Balance Corp) would be less than desired.
Therefore, New Balance Corp should ensure there should be someone who is really capable to be the leader in order to manage the team effectively because if the leaders successfully delegate tasks to the subordinates, then the end goal of corporation would be made clear to all the team members (i.e. in this case is to produce the better quality shoes products that fit the customer’s needs by New Balance Corp).
Besides, New Balance Corp should also ensure there is a proper planning of delegation of an assignment to each team which is capable of. This is to ensure the efficiency of outputs could be maximised. Failure in planning of delegation assignments by New Balance could result in more and more defects shoes products being produced which did not meet the customer requirements.
As globalisation is concerned, teamwork culture practiced by New Balance Corp may not be seen effective. This is where it is likely to group the employees from different backgrounds and cultures together (i.e. New Balance could probably put the expertise from Eastern and American together to form a team). In such circumstance, there is a possibility where cultural differences arise when employees from different backgrounds are put together in a team. Some of the common examples are religious, punctuality, languages, formality and others.
Perhaps, New balance Corp could face a wide range of challenges from different aspects if they were to put the employees from different backgrounds together. For instance, overcoming communication barriers, obtaining clarity regarding objectives and so on between the team members.
Bringing New Balance business into global market would bring several advantages, there are as follows:
The market shares for New Balance business could be enlarged and not only restricted to local market alone. Customers come across from different continents other than local market (i.e. American market) such as Asian market, European market etc. Subsequently, it will boost up its Sales and profitability for New Balance Corp by going into global market.
Next, it could also provide New Balance Corp a more liquid cash flow. This means it further encourages investors from all over the world to make capital investments on New Balance Corp instead of restricting in the local market.
Besides, by setting the factories and outlets in foreign countries itself could further reduce the transportation cost and other costs to bring the finished shoes products to the foreign markets upon received the orders from foreign customers.
Moreover, it would further uplift the brand name of New Balance Corp throughout the world and subsequently increases its sales and profitability.
The innovative culture which is practised by New Balance Corp could further be improved when talents and expertise throughout the world come across and to contribute the ideas in order to innovate a new shoes products. (Ideas-sharing)
On the other hand, there could also be some disadvantages which can be foreseen while New Balance Corp’s business is about to bring into global market, they are as follows:
Political factors from different countries would probably be discouraging New Balance Corp to expand its business into foreign markets. It would be necessary for New Balance Corp would probably be obtaining the business licenses to start its business in the foreign countries and of course different countries would have different rules and regulations. New Balance should aware the rules and regulations for those foreign countries to avoid the withdrawal of business licenses by foreign government.
Next issue that will come across as a result of going its business would definitely be lacking of knowledge in the foreign markets. Therefore, New Balance would need to consider the most appropriate strategy adopted by the corporation to expand the business in overseas market. Franchising would probably be one of the appropriate strategy, in fact, looking for the most appropriate franchisee in the foreign market may not be easy and New Balance Corp would need to take into consideration the terms and conditions of franchising agreements.
Competitions within the same industry in the global market would definitely be very likely. The common competitors in the sports shoes industry like Nike, Reebok etc. would also be trying to maximise the market shares in global markets. Therefore again, this would threaten New Balance’s sales and profitability.
