References should be in Harvard notation, for one author [Barrow 2002], for two authors [Barrow and Williams 2002], for multiple authors [Smith et al 2005], several studies illustrating the same point [Barrow 2002; Smith et al 2005; Mayhew 2000].

All cited references should appear in the references at the end.  Formatted slightly differently depending on whether they are journal paper, book, thesis, etc.

All diagrams and tables should have a title and a reference number. The reference number should be referred to from the appropriate point within the text, see Figure 1.

One last note...beware of plagiarism!!! It basically means taking another’s work and passing it off as your own.  If you don’t properly cite the work, you are effectively guilty of plagiarism. This is taken very seriously at this level (Masters and 3rd year). What I want to see is a body of work in your own words that uses minimal direct quotes from other authors, but of course lots of http://www.ukthesis.org where appropriate. All work will be randomly checked for plagiarism. If you’re unsure please ask.
