ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
GUIDELINES FOR PORTFOLIO

This portfolio assignment requires you to construct a portfolio by assembling materials and summarizing concepts and theories related to organizational behavior that have significance to you. A portfolio is a collection

of items that has some value to the owner and communicates in some way the owner’s values, knowledge, skills, and feelings. The nature of a portfolio is easier to understand when one thinks of a teacher who is applying for a position at a school. Teachers typically construct portfolios that communicate their skills and abilities to administrators. The portfolio might include the teacher’s philosophy of teaching, something about their experiences as a student teacher or in former teaching positions, projects that the teacher has completed or articles that they have written. The portfolio communicates something about the teacher: their philosophy, skills and abilities, and interests.

This is the manner in which I want you to approach the portfolio. In the portfolio, try to convey what you know about organizational behavior by explaining material and applying it to personal experiences and examples.
This is your opportunity to explore and reflect upon issues and concepts that are of personal interest, significance and value to you.

The portfolio should consist of the following four sections.

Section 1
This section should include three summaries of what you learned from reading three articles from management journals or magazines published since the year 1995. These articles should be chosen for their relevance to topics covered in this course and should be substantive pieces of work (not 1 page articles). All articles should be related to one general topic of your choosing. In your summary, tell me (1) generally what the article said,

(2) what you learned, (3) how it might affect the way you practice management, and (4) any personalization that you can include. After the separate summaries, write an integration section that ties the articles together and provides the big picture.

1. DO NOT include articles read in this or another class.
2. At least one article should be from a scholarly journal, one from a trade/professional journal, and one from a
popular source.
3. Only the articles need to focus on a common topic. The rest of the portfolio should cover a variety of different
organizational behavior topics.
4. Include a photocopy of the first and last page of each article in an appendix at the end of the portfolio.

Section 2
This section should include an annotated bibliography of approximately 20 sources on your topic in Section 1. Put the sources in alphabetical order by the last name of the first author. Use the American Psychological Association (5th ed.) format for the references. After each reference, provide a brief summary of the article which consists of the main argument and major points discussed. This section should probably be completed first as you conduct your research.

Section 3
This section should include a thorough summary of a conversation (interview) you have and the insights you gained from talking to one practicing manager about a variety of organizational behavior issues and specifically how they deal with them. Be as specific and detailed as possible. What was the most valuable advice they gave to you on how to manage? How did what they say agree or disagree with specific things covered in class. Use a question answer format followed by a summary of the interview. Be sure to include the manager’s name, affiliation, location and date of the interview.

Section 4
This section should include a discussion of seven concepts (theories, constructs, terms) learned in class and their implications for your personal philosophy and practice of management. Discussions of each concept should be approximately one page in length and should describe the concept and tell specifically how an awareness of the concept will affect your future perspectives and practice as a manager. Provide personal examples. Your concepts should span as many concepts and topic areas as possible and may come from the textbook, class discussions or articles.

USE THE FOLLOWING FORMAT FOR THE PORTFOLIO.
1. Use Times New Roman or Arial font. Use a 12 point font size.
2. Use 1” margins all around.
3. Double space everything except article references. Article references should be single spaced.
4. For article references, use the American Psychological Association (5th ed.) format for references.
5. Do not bind, staple, or place in a cover. Use a binder clip only!!!

Title page: include course number, course name, your name and date

Body of portfolio:
1. Half title page which identifies the research topic. Then present article summaries. Put full reference at the top of the page followed by the summary. Begin each article at the top of a new page. Finish with the integration section.#p#分页标题#e#

2. Half title page. Then do the annotated bibliography section. Put reference followed by the summary of the article.

3. Half title page for the Interview section. Put person’s name, affiliation, location and date of interview at the top of the page followed interview questions, answers, and your summary.

4. Half title page for the Concepts section. Then discuss the concepts, beginning each concept on a new page. Underline each concept name or phrase at the top of the page before your discussion.
