Toolkit Design Exercise (TDE)

Assignment:

Traditional firms such as BA and BT are experiencing huge problems to survive and sustain their competitiveness. The financial sector has also recently experienced one of the most serious downturns in its history. These are just a few cases where firms demand change.

You work for a consultancy firm which has been asked by a client to provide a feasibility work plan. This work plan should outline a management process on how you would go about helping the company affect change. In particular, you are expected to offer your client the following information:

1. A description of the methods and tools you propose to use to identify the challenges facing the organisation;
2. A description of the methods and tools you propose to use to identify the options and possible solutions for the client to consider.

For both (1) and (2) you should provide not only a description of the methods and tools but also how you would use them in the client’s organisation.

The client is also looking for a critical analysis of the methods and tools. He/ she would like you to provide some thoughts on the following issues:

3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of each proposed method and tool?
4. Can you suggest any improvements?
5. Can you come up with anything new?

Output:

The assignment will be delivered in the form of a brief write-up (up to 2,000 words). You are supposed to design a generic ‘toolkit’ and to apply it in a specific client (real company) of your choice. The report should be in a business-style format. This style includes text, figures and references.
